Corpus Christi ES staff assisted Region 4 staff in conducting the first Spill Safety and Leadership Class in Lafayette, Louisiana.  Using tools and techniques developed in the last three years, the week long course trains environmental response personnel who work with natural resources during oil and hazardous materials spills.   Approximately 40 students from ES, Refuges, Coast Guard, Corps of Engineers, Louisiana Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality learned about hazardous materials safety, watercraft safety, oiled wildlife capture and restraint, wildlife deterring and pre-emptive capturing, media relations, aviation safety, and helicopter external sling load safety.
