Border Fence Congressional Briefing
Southwest Region, July 7, 2007
Print Friendly Version

Corpus Christi ES staff (Alamo suboffice) attended a July 7 meeting at the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge with several U.S. Congressmen and the U.S. Border Patrol to discuss concerns for the border fence proposal.  Congressman Price (D-North Carolina, Chair of Subcommittee on Homeland Security), Culberson (R-Texas) and Ortiz (D-Texas) and their staff attended, along with Appropriations Committee staff and Subcommittee on Homeland Security staff.  Participants were briefed on the biological diversity of the region, ecotourism, habitat scarcity, and wildlife management concerns (fence would restrict north/south travel; prevent access to water; take habitat and increase fragmentation; genetic isolation, and operations and maintenance).
