Town of Marana Habitat Conservation Plan Public Scoping Meetings
Southwest Region, July 24, 2007
Print Friendly Version
Arizona Ecological Services Office staff participated in three public scoping meetings related to the development of a Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) by the Town of Marana.  The meetings were organized and facilitated by staff from the Town of Marana, the Service, and RECON, the Town's consultant for the development of the HCP. Three meetings were held on July 9, July 11, and July 24, 2007 at facilities within the Town of Marana.  Marana is located in Pima County, in south-central Arizona, and has been working on an HCP for the past four years.  Marana is developing an HCP which would potentially cover up to 13 species including two listed species, three species that have been petitioned for listing, and nine unlisted species of concern. Covered activities could include capital improvement projects, and residential and commercial development.  This HCP will complement and be consistent with the HCPs being developed by the neighboring municipalities of Pima County and the City of Tucson.  The scoping meetings were attended by representatives from both the HCP's technical advisory team and the stakeholder working group.  Public attendance included representatives from local government, the mining industry, sand and gravel operators, the development community, environmental organizations, community members, neighborhood associations, and local media.  The HCP is scheduled for completion in May 2009.
