Blackwater National Wildlife RefugeParticipates in Salisbury Zoo’s Earth Day Event
Northeast Region, April 21, 2007
Print Friendly Version

Volunteers from Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge represented the refuge at the Salisbury Zoo's annual Earth Day event on April 21, 2007. Volunteers Zeeger deWilde and Mary Konchar displayed the refuge's portable exhibit at the event, which hosts approximately 5,000 adults and children during the 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. celebration. The refuge participates in the Zoo's "Scavenger Hunt," which challenges kids to visit all the displays set up around the Zoo and ask a pre-determined question to each exhibitor, helping them learn about Earth Day and the environment. Blackwater's question this year was "Which previously endangered animal is due to be taken off the Endangered Species List?" with the answer, of course, "the bald eagle." Once each child has completed his or her Scavenger Hunt sheet, they receive a bag of prizes from the Zoo.
