The month of May is a popular month for public use at Jordan River NFH.  Typically local schools, colleges, non profits and the like access the Jordan River Valley at the hatchery and schedule a tour or special program.

This May, three different instructors from separate institutions brought their natural resources, aquatic biology and environmental science classes to the hatchery for tours and programs.

Boyne City High School natural resources class toured the facility and Fisheries Biologist Tim Smigielski discussed career opportunities with the juniors and seniors.

West Academy near Grand Rapids and AuSable Institute near Grayling, both nonprofit environmental education institutions, scheduled tours and programs while sampling the river and hiking the valley.

These are college students enrolled in summer courses through their college or university.  The instructors like the diverse experience of the staff and science based environment here at the hatchery.

Nearly 75 students visited in May seeking experience in natural resource conservation and management.  The staff at Jordan are certainly having a hand in molding our future resource stewards.
