The Long Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex celebrated the 1st annual International Migratory Bird Celebration on May 12, 2007 with a special event filled with activities, programs and exhibitors.  Over 300 participants shared in the fun which included a bird walk, canoe trip, nature walk, live bird demonstration and art workshops.  In addition, throughout the day visitors learned about birds through the various exhibits on display from local conservation organizations.  An area was set up for children's activities which included a station for building bird houses and bird feeders, learning about bird adaptations and migration and an instructional station on how to use binoculars and a field guide.
