Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge participated in the East Woods County Conservation District's Conservation Youth Expo on Friday, June 22, 2007.

This was the first such event held by the district and had approximately 220 participants. Demonstrators came from all over the state to assist, giving kids a multitude of things to do - ranging from exploring bird adaptations, painting with Oklahoma soil, learning about the water cycle, leaf rubbings, tracks, skins and skulls, carding, dying and spinning wool, rocks and fossils, a petting zoo, fire house, sifting through owl pellets and more.
