Outdoor Recreation Planner, Emily Neidigh presented at the Oklahoma PASSages 2007 State Superintendent's NW Regional Curriculum Conference on Tuesday, June 19, 2007.

It was introduced in the conference booklet as "National Wildlife Resources in Oklahoma", for Science - all grades. "Oklahoma is an ecologically vast state with incredible natural places to offer education experiences. Mrs. Neidigh will go through the opportunities available through the nine National Wildlife Refuges in Oklahoma to supplement your curriculum. More than just a field trip, working with refuge staff can open doors to guest speakers, available curriculum, activities, and more. The concept of the "nature deficit disorder" and the "no child left indoors" initiative will be introduced and several easy to incorportate ideas for expanding class work into the outdoors will be provided."

The conference presentation went well. With visitors who had either only been to Salt Plains NWR to dig for selenite crystals or had never been to a NWR. Creating a "more than a field trip" relationship with the FWS was the key point being made, as well as promoting the green hour, getting children outdoors and the Shorebird Sister Schools program.

Oklahoma refuges were contacted and able to provide photographs and information about EE at their station. A few of the powerpoint slides are presented below.
