Changes in Double-crested Cormorant Population Dynamics Reported at 50th Annual Meeting of International Association of Great Lakes Research
Midwest Region, May 31, 2007
Print Friendly Version

Dr. Ken Stromborg of the Green Bay Ecological Services Office participated in a two-day symposium on Double-crested Cormorants, at the International Association of Great Lakes Research 50th Annual Meeting, May 30-31.

He presented a paper entitled:  Cormorant survivorship and mortality patterns at Spider Island, WI, 1988-2005.  He also provided data and was a co-author on a paper by Adam Duerr of the Vermont Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit entitled:  Survival of double-crested cormorants and philopatry to natal colonies on Lakes Michigan, Ontario, and Champlain.

Both of these papers document relatively unknown aspects of cormorant population biology, survival rates and dispersal rates.  These data are essential for developing adaptive management strategies for this species.
