Aransas National Wildlife Refuge Complex Honors Conservationist Rachel Carson

On Saturday May 26, 2007 Aransas National Wildlife Refuge Complex hosted activities honoring the 100th birthday of Rachel Carson, a pivotal figure in national conservation efforts.  Activities included a 10:00 a.m. nature hike led by Tonya Stinson, Environmental Education Specialist, a movie about Rachel Carson shown throughout the day and refreshments sponsored by the Friends of Aransas and Matagorda Island.  Carson’s book Silent Spring was available for sale at the Visitor Center.  Stinson’s guided walk entitled “Journey Through Reflections-Rachel Carson Guided Walk” utilized Carson’s insightful quotes and journaling to lead participants through Heron Flats Trail on a thought-provoking trek.
