"No Child Left Inside " Workshop
Northeast Region, May 3, 2007
Print Friendly Version

The National Park Service at Acadia invited Maine refuges to join 55 educators from across Maine to discuss the issue of children's lack of connection to nature.  The individuals discussed various ways in which children and adults were becoming removed from the outdoors.  Appreciation for parks, refuges and nature appears to be decreasing as visitation numbers go down in many areas.  The group exchanged and developed strategies to insure that our efforts moved in an effective direction to bring families back to nature.  Problem areas of budget, marketing and adult lack of outdoor knowledge were discussed among many other topics.  Managers from Moosehorn and Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuges participated in workshop.
