KENAI: Refuge Highlights Moose at Sports Show
Alaska Region, May 14, 2007
Print Friendly Version
Moose are on everyone's mind in springtime on the Kenai Peninsula and made a perfect topic for the Refuge to highlight at the annual sports show.
Moose are on everyone's mind in springtime on the Kenai Peninsula and made a perfect topic for the Refuge to highlight at the annual sports show.

Kenai National Wildlife Refuge provided information which highlighted moose at the annual spring sportman's show held at the Soldotna Sports Center.  The three-day event is attended by thousands of area residents as they prepare for summer outings that range from camping and boating to hunting and fishing.  All Refuge staff pitched in to run the booth.  Moose was a perfect topic for the Refuge booth because the Refuge was first established in 1941 as the Kenai National Moose Range and is still referred to by many as "The Moose Range".  Ongoing studies and management programs on moose were the focus of the posters and approximately 350 to 400 participants received moose nuggets (aka raisenets) as rewards for playing a moose game set up at the booth.
