Journal Entry   Back TETLIN: Promoting Firewise Landscaping Alaska Region, May 10, 2007 Print Friendly Version Tetlin Refuge in cooperation with University of Alaska Fairbanks, Cooperative Extension Service, and AK Division of Forestry -Tok, gave a short Firewise presentation at a landscaping workshop recently held in Tok. Participants viewed excerpts from the CD Northland Wildfires - Firewise Landscaping along with receiving brochures and handouts. Some of the topics covered included basic principles of Firewise protection, pruning and thinning vegetation, planting fire resistant plants and shrubs, and using fire resistant materials in garden design. The CD generated interest among the participants and the instructor. The Cooperative Extension Service requested a copy of the CD to use in their future workshops. The Refuge will also work with the local nursery to make landscaping and maintenance information available this fire season.
