In March 2007, Patuxent National Wildlife Research Refuge and National Wildlife Federation co-hosted the first ever Habitat Stewards Training at the National Wildlife Visitor Center. Participants learned how to create wildlife habitat in their own backyards, schools and community centers at this three-day training program. Training sessions were taught by many local experts and included: National Wildlife Federation's Habitat Stewards Program, Native Plants and Butterfly Gardens, Wildlife Conflict Resolution and Wildlife Rehabilitation, Vermicomposting and Resource Raising.
