Lower Great Lakes Fishery Resources Office Gives Invasive Species Presentation to the Niagara County Environmental Council
Northeast Region, April 30, 2007
Print Friendly Version
Staff from the Lower Great Lakes Fisheries Resource Office gave a presentation to the Niagara County Environmental Council about invasive species concerns in the Great Lakes.  The regional aquatic nuisance species (ANS) coordinator (stationed at LGLFRO) discussed the status of prominent invasive species already established in the Great Lakes (round goby, zebra and quagga mussels, and waterfleas).  In addition, he gave a description of invaders that are on the way or recently reported (Asian carp and bloody red shrimp) and discussed ways to help prevent the continued spread of all ANS.  Prior to the start of the presentation, the regional coordinator was interviewed about the invasive species issue by the student-run local TV network, OSC-TV 21:
