Columbia FRO Staff Develop New Employee Handbook
Midwest Region, January 3, 2007
Print Friendly Version

Employees are often placed into positions and expected to “hit the ground running”.  New employee orientation can often be a confusing and stressful time for a new hire, especially if they have never worked for the Service before.  To help with these issues, Columbia FRO staff have assembled a new employee handbook.

Working closely with administrative staff and all levels from project leader to technicians, staff put together this handbook to provide everything from necessary paperwork, to basic “how to’s” and some friendly guidance on a myriad of decisions a new employee must make.

The format enables managers to track the progress of new employees during their processing period.  The handbook includes a welcome section and chapters covering initial paperwork, benefits, policy, station and project history, orientation to our facilities,(shop and laboratory) and a section for tracking skill set training.

The New Employee Handbook is a tool set up to be “one stop shopping” for new hires.  Columbia FRO began using the handbook with the recent hire of two employees and are seeks their feedback to make it even better.
