Nature Workshops sponsored by Friends of Buenos Aires NWR
Southwest Region, April 20, 2007
Print Friendly Version

The Friends of Buenos Aires NWR continue to present a fall and spring series of nature workshops for the public.  Located in the Brown Canyon section of the refuge, these overnight study seminars are instructed by experts in various fields of natural history.  The setting is the Environmental Education Center, nestled in the oak-clad foothills of the Baboquivari Mountains.  In fall 2007, the Friends held a successful workshop focusing on dinosaurs and another weekend studying geology of the Baboquivari Mountains.  In spring of 2007 an indoor lecture concentrated on Arizona mammals, particularly cougars, ringtails, and bats.  In April, a day-long field trip in Brown Canyon featured plants of the area, and a 2-day workshop focused on the geology of the Baboquivaris.  In May, participants in a day walk will search for the myriad species of butterflies and dragonflies to be found in Brown Canyon.  These workshops offer people a weekend retreat in a beautiful and educational setting, and help acquaint the public with the variety of wildlife to be found on the refuge.
