Lower Great Lakes Fishery Resources Office Provides Invasive Species Information to Niagara Musky Association
Northeast Region, April 3, 2007
Print Friendly Version
The Lower Great Lakes Fisheries Resource Office was invited by the Niagara Musky Association to give a presentation on invasive species activities in the lower Great Lakes watershed.  The regional invasive species coordinator, stationed at the LGLFRO, provided updates on Asian carp, round goby, and the newest invader to be identified in the Great Lakes, the bloody red shrimp (Hemimysis anomala).  Questions about ballast water discharges, invasive species biology, and actions at the federal level were also addressed.  A detailed description of Hemimysis was provided, which included how and where to look for this new invader, how to report possible sightings, where to get more information, and what the LGLFRO plans to do this season to monitor the new invader, which is the 183rd to be identified in the Great Lakes.
