The Lower Great Lakes Fisheries Resource Office held a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) workshop in collaboration with New York Sea Grant and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection in Augusta, ME on April 10, 2007.  Forty people attended the workshop, representing a wide range of agency and other professions including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, private bait dealers, Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Maine Aquaculture Association, Nova Scotia Dept. of Agriculture and Fish, the Lake Champlain Basin Program, Maine Coastal Program, Maine Department of Marine Resources, Maine Atlantic Salmon Commission, and Friendship International.  This workshop was conducted to provide participants with information about the importance of HACCP and how to write a successful plan, as well as the role of HACCP in preventing the spread of aquatic nuisance species (ANS).  Participants had an opportunity to begin development of their own HACCP plans in the class.
