Double Crested Cormorant populations throughout the Great Lakes have grown substantially from the low population level of the 1970’s.  

The public and resource managers have become concerned that the increase in Cormorant numbers may have detrimental impacts on other natural resources. 

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, University of Wisconsin, and USDA Division of Wildlife Services conducted a study to determine the diet and consumption of the Cat Island cormorant colony in southern Green Bay.  

The third year of field work from this study was summarized and presented by graduate student Sarah Meadows.  Green Bay Fishery Biologist John Netto presented his preliminary analysis to estimate the population abundance of yellow perch that were vulnerable to cormorant predation. 

Participants then discussed how best to proceed with the analysis and what additional research might be needed in order to increase the understanding of the role of cormorant predation on the fish populations of Green Bay.
