Justin Congdon, an area turtle researcher and local ranch manager, generously donated his time and expertise, as well as his x-ray equipment to the refuge to x-ray several catfish specimens that are believed to be Yaqui Catfish.  Several x-rays of the fish were taken to determine exposure settings and the films were developed for the refuge by  Dr. Geiger a veterinarian withCoronado Animal Hospital in Sierra Vista, Arizona.  Yaqui catfish can be distinguished from channel catfish by the way the spine attaches to the skull and the use of x-rays allows for this to be done with out destroying the specimens, which are typically donated to universities for teaching purposes.
