Deep Fork Refuge staff hosted the Second Annual Archery in the Schools Competition at Cussetah Bottoms Boardwalk Trail on March 27, 2007.  Ninety children from three area schools (Morris, Wilson and Beggs) met at nine in the morning to begin a day long archery competition.   All of the students from the local schools fourth and fifth grade had to qualify during their archery classes to make it to the refuge event.  Throughout the day, the students rotated between a competition archery shoot, a 3-D archery shoot, and a bow fishing event.  Scores were totaled for the morning competition, and the top scoring kids shot again in an elimination round for gold, silver and bronze medals in the afternoon.   Morris was the highest scoring school, and was awarded the annual trophy.

The event was hosted with the help of nearly forty individual volunteers, staff from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, five local businesses donating food and drinks, members from Friends of the Deep Fork NWR, members from Okmulgee Bowhunter’s Association, and the Fish Stickers bow fishing club.
