John Hughes of the West Texas Suboffice participated in three meetings developed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to inform the public about the new Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances (CCAA) for the lesser prairie-chicken (LPC) in Texas.  The meetings were designed to inform potential participants in the CCAA about its provisions and requirements, and were held in the communities of Canadian, Wheeler, and Lipscomb.  Mr. Hughes delivered a presentation on the conservation status of the LPC at each meeting, and the presentation included a synopsis of the CCAA and instructions on how to enroll.  Although attendance of landowners at the meetings was relatively light, the presentations gave personnel from TPWD and the Service an opportunity to assess private landowner interest in conservation of the LPC.
