Southwest Region, February 27, 2007
Print Friendly Version

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has issued a permanent removal order for a Mexican wolf, male 1007.  Since March 20, 2006, M1007, a member of the Saddle Pack, has been involved in three confirmed depredation incidents involving three cows in New Mexico.  This removal order applies to M1007 only, and not to other members of the Saddle pack.

In accordance with the final approved control guidelines (SOP 13.0 – Control of Mexican Wolves), “...[W]hen a third livestock depredation incident occurs:  (1) Within 24 hours, the Mexican Wolf Recovery Coordinator or his designee shall, after consulting with the Adaptive Management Oversight Committee, issue a permanent removal order.”

As of 1 March 2007, the removal order had not been completed.
