Columbia FRO technicians Lee Erickson, Chris McCleland and biologist Cliff Wilson assisted during Missouri River Relief Clean Up the River near Atchison, Kansas. Missouri River Relief is leading the way in providing an efficient river cleanup program by collaborating with local, state, and federal agencies.

In 2005 Missouri River Relief cleaned up 41.5 tons of trash from 56 miles of shoreline. On September 9^th the Missouri River Relief team cleaned up 12 miles of shoreline along the Missouri River near Atchison, Kansas.

Lee Erickson and Chris McCleland, had the privilege of leading a group of 9 Benedictine College education majors, in the cleanup. The aspiring teachers were full of insightful questions about the Missouri River, which showed their concern for the well being of the Missouri River ecosystem.

Cliff Wilson led another group of local volunteers throughout the day. The combination of positive attitudes and strong work ethic exhibited by the local volunteers left a lasting impression upon all that attended the event. Despite rainy weather all were in good spirits and made the best of the time spent cleaning up the shores of the Missouri River.
