Visitors play "Migration Headache" Photo by Susan J Russo

The Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge staff (at the cooperative Great Falls Discovery Center) invited visitors to take an imaginary trip way south to see where our neotropical migrants spend their winters!  Amidst brightly colored palm trees, parrots, travel posters and strains of steel drum music, 30 people of multiple ages attended the day's special activities.  This annual event is scheduled during school vacation week to accommodate those parents looking for activities to do with their children, and also to help combat the "cabin fever" so common during the late winter.  Many visitors that came for Caribbean Day to learn about our colorful migrants were also first time visitors to the Discovery Center.  This was a win-win opportunity; the refuge gained exposure while promoting stewardship values and we met some new neighbors.  Although all activities were a hit, the overall favorite was "Migration Headache" from Project WILD.
