New Bald Eagle Nesting Confirmed in North Texas
Southwest Region, February 27, 2007
Print Friendly Version

On February 23 and 27, 2007, biologists from the Arlington Field Office met with staff of a municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the Dallas, Texas area near Ray Hubbard Reservoir.  The meetings were prompted by a report of an active bald eagle nest near the WWTP property.  Staff of the WWTP were aware of the nest, which was constructed this breeding season, and have been observing eagles foraging and attending the nest.  During both site visits, Service biologists observed the nest and two adult eagles tending to nestlings.  The Arlington Field Office has recently received several reports of eagles (through photographs and telephone calls) in the vicinity of Ray Hubbard Reservoir, which are believed to be winter residents.  The active nest near the WWTP may be the first documented breeding pair of eagles at Ray Hubbard Reservoir.
