Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge partnered with its Friends Group, Friends of the Wallkill River Refuges, to host a site for the nationwide backyard bird count survey. The survey is conducted by Cornell University. More than 30 people participated in the event, including approximately 12 children. The day included bird observation (about 30 species and 150 individual birds), bird house construction, feeder construction, talks and a live raptor demonstration.
