Coastal Wetland Planning Protection and Restoration Act Grant announced at Guadalupe-Blanco River Trust Board Meeting
Southwest Region, February 16, 2007
Print Friendly Version

On Friday Feb. 16, 2007, the Board of Directors of the Guadalupe-Blanco River Trust met at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.  During the meeting the board was informed by Dr. Todd Votteler, Trust Director, and John Huffman, USFWS Southwest Region Coastal Program Coordinator, that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department was awarded a National Coastal Wetland Grant from the Service.  The objective of the grant is the conservation of 689 acres, mostly wetlands, in the Guadalupe River Delta region.  With TPWD's help, the Trust will acquire the tract and hold it for permanent conservation.  The match for the grant was provided by the current owner of the land, the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority.  The USFWS Coastal Program assisted the Trust and TPWD in preparing the grant proposal and were recognized by the Trust's Director.  The primary partners, TWPD and the River Authority were also present at the meeting and recognized as the principle cooperators that allowed this project application to be successful.
