Squaw Creek NWR Hosts Loess Hills Habitat Workday
Midwest Region, October 28, 2006
Print Friendly Version

On October 28, Wildlife Refuge Operations Specialist Corey Kudrna worked with three volunteers on a loess hill prairie restoration project on Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge.

The group voluteered more than 30 hours to cut invasive trees and brush along the loess bluff hiking trail and were able to stack the brush after clearing approximately 1/4 acre of hillside.

This management will allow native grasses and forbs to recover in this restored area.  Volunteers also collected native forb seed from the refuge prairies that will be seeded in the late winter.
