High School Students Volunteer at Squaw Creek
Midwest Region, October 10, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Twenty-seven members of the Mid-Buchanan R-5 Student Council visited Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, October 10, to volunteer their time to improve a hiking trail.

The students, led by their teacher Gene Deatherage, have come to Squaw Creek the past few years to spend a day at the refuge working on a variety of projects.

This year, the group worked on the Callow Memorial Trail removing the old split rail fence and trail barriers.

Refuge Operations Specialist Corey Kudrna and Park Ranger Charles Marshall supervised the students and the project.  The students donated 50 hours and were each awarded a certificate for their efforts.
