Service participates in Vision North Texas, a Region-wide planning effort in North Central Texas
Southwest Region, January 27, 2007
Print Friendly Version
Carol Hale, of the Arlington Ecological Services Field Office attended the Southeastern Subregional Workshop for Vision North Texas on January 27, 2007, in the City of Lancaster, Texas. This was the first of several regional workshops sponsored by Vision North Texas, a private-public partnership designed to increase awareness about the population and development growth expected in a 16 county area of North Texas encompassing the Dallas/ Fort Worth Metroplex within the next three decades. Vision North Texas plans to involve people and organizations in initiatives that accommodate this growth.  Participants discussed human population and development growth trends, projections, and impacts; economic and natural resources goals and objectives; and how to manage for these factors within the next 30 years.

The Southeastern Subregion includes several important natural resources, such as a large portion the Trinity River floodplain containing bottomland hardwood forests; the most northern section of the Balcones Escarpment containing endangered golden-cheeked warbler and black capped vireo habitat; and remnants of the diminishing Blackland Prairie, such as the Clymer Meadow.

Vision North Texas is sponsored by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) North Texas District Council, and the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA).
