In 2006, a total of eight of eighteen areas with vireo nesting habitat on the Refuge were surveyed from April 15^th through June 15^th.  An attempt was made to count all the male territories within each designated area.  The numbers located allows an estimate of the total number of vireos nesting refuge-wide.

The net change within the 2006 survey areas and the same areas surveyed in 2005 was 978 territories in 2006 and 949 territories in 2005.  This represented a net increase of 23 territories in 2006 or a 2.4 overall increase.

The estimated population of mated pairs refuge-wide in 2006 is 1,503 vireos.
