Oklahoma ES Staff Coordinates With Oklahoma Water Resources Board on Arbucle-Simpson Aquifer Study
Southwest Region, January 31, 2007
Print Friendly Version
The meeting focused on State Bill 288 which places restrictions on water pumping of the aquifer and water flows in surface waters.  How to determine minimum flows of waterways and springs within the watershed was the main topic of discussion.

In the final analysis, identified were several "floors" of protection that should be considered as how to prevent degradation or interference with springs or streams.

These included:

- Ecological/Biological Integrity (including Endangered and Indicator

Species)

- Water Supplies

- Recreation and

- Water Quality Standards

Further steps will be taken to determine the type of study to pursue to collect the information necessary to establish flow thresholds for these floors working under the concept “if you protect the most conservative "use"

you protect all uses.” OWRB staff will conduct future meetings investigating the most efficient method of addressing these issues.
