The Marquette Biological Station has moved.

The station, which acts as the U.S. agent of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission for delivery of the sea lamprey control program in the Great Lakes, moved to a new 25,000-square foot facility in Marquette Township, this January.

When the lease at the old facility expired, a new building was constructed to meet the program’s evolving needs.  Changes in operations allowed for the facility to be about 11% smaller than the old facility.

The shop and parking areas were both reduced in area.  The office was reconfigured to accommodate a growing alternative control program, and to house co-located staff from Ecological Services (East Lansing Field Office) and the USGS-BRD (Ann Arbor Field Office).

The new facility has enhanced security features, energy saving devices, in-floor heat for improved comfort during the winter months, and updated communication and IT equipment.  The station employs about 35 full time staff and adds about 30 seasonal staff during the field season. The new facility should contribute to an already efficient operation.
