Twin Cities Staff Continue Peregrine Falcon Post-Delisting Monitoring
Midwest Region, September 1, 2006
Print Friendly Version

In 2006, the Twin Cities Ecological Services Field Office coordinated the second year of peregrine falcon post-delisting monitoring in Region 3.

Monitoring is conducted once every three years and will continue until 2015.

In 2006, 25 randomly selected territories in Region 3 were monitored by states and other partners.  Only one of these sites, Corundrum Point in Minnesota, was on a natural cliff site – all others were on a variety of human-made structures.

Peregrine falcon pairs occupied 23 of the 25 sites and every occupied site successfully produced at least one fledgling, with a mean of 2.9 fledglings per occupied nest.

Data clearly indicates that peregrine falcons continue to thrive in the upper Midwest since they were delisted in 1999.
