Squaw Creek Hosts Outdoor Classroom Dedication
Midwest Region, October 14, 2006
Print Friendly Version

A large number of schools and universities utilize Squaw Creek NWR annually for environmental education and interpretation.  However, the refuge did not have adequate facilities to accomodate this program.

The Friends of Squaw Creek raised money for the construction of an outdoor classroom that became a reality on October 14 with the dedication of this facility.

The primary individual who pushed for the classroom and was responsible for raising the money was the former president of the Squaw Creek Friends group, George L. Scheil.

The building was dedicated to him for his great desire to educate young people about natural resources and the environment.

The building was erected on an old foundation that previously contained a dragline shed.  A new concrete slab was poured over the old foundation.  The building also has electricity and water.
