Maps and Post-MAPS banding completed at Leslie Canyon NWR
Southwest Region, December 6, 2006
Print Friendly Version

December saw the final bird banding session of the year on December 6th.  Volunteers for the refuge, Clark Bloom and Jacob Malcom, braved the cold and ice of Leslie Creek to complete the final session of banding.  The last day was slow, as to be expected of the season, but they did net a Black-chinned Sparrow, a noteworthy species for the refuge.  Over the course of the entire season several note worthy birds were captured; Violet-crowned Hummingbird, Northern Catbird, Green Kingfisher, Hermit Warblers, American Redstart, and Black-capped Gnatcatchers. The most eventful day of the season was the first day where we had over 90 captures of hummingbirds for the day.
