Early Coordination Identifies Need for Environmentally Sensitive Developmenton Tamarac Refuge Boundary
Midwest Region, November 12, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Twin Cities Ecological Services Field Office staff provided in-depth coordination and comments, in cooperation with the Tamarac Refuge Manager, on a proposed residential development on the shore of Tea Cracker Lake, Minnesota.

Tea Cracker Lake is an environmentally sensitive shallow lake with a large wild rice bed which attracts a large number of migratory waterfowl annually and serves as a wildlife corridor for numerous terrestrial species, including the gray wolf.

The lake's northwestern half lies within Tamarac Refuge boundaries and the other half is privately owned.  Discussions between the Service, Becker County, the Minnesota DNR, and concerned citizens are ongoing for recommended plat adjustments and protective lake measures.
