Deep Fork Refuge Conducts Controlled Deer Hunt in November

The refuge conducted a primitive controlled deer hunt during November 3-5, 2006.  The hunt drawing was conducted through the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s controlled hunt process, and included 40 adult, and 5 disabled hunters.  The refuge conducted a pre-hunt briefing at noon on Friday, and the hunt ran until Sunday evening.  A total of forty-three hunters were present for the hunt, including four disabled hunters.  Three of the four disabled hunters were successful in harvesting a deer.  A total of twenty-nine deer were harvested during the hunt giving a 67% hunter success rate.
