Kenai Refuge Environmental Education Specialist Michelle Ostrowski works with students as part of a new program focusing on Alaska mammals

Kenai National Wildlife Refuge staff have developed a new environmental education program with the theme of Alaskan mammals.  The program includes hands-on activities at three learning stations and helps students learn about predator/prey relationships, trophic levels (herbivore, carnivore, and omnivore), physical adaptations for survival, and animal signs in the wild.  All activities require students to apply what they have learned by solving riddles and doing matching activities.  The new program debuted with ten classes at Mt. View Elementary School and was deemed a success by students and teachers alike.
