New Mexico Ecological ServicesParticipates in Landowner Meeting and Eddy County Commission Meeting Regarding the Texas Hornshell Mussel in the Black River near Carlsbad
Southwest Region, November 7, 2006
Print Friendly Version
On November 6, 2006, the New Mexico Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program (Partners) in the New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office and Regional Office Endangered Species staff participated with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMDG&F) and Natural Resources Conservation Service in an informational meeting held in Black River Village with local ranchers to discuss the status of the Texas hornshell mussel (candidate species) and to provide information about available cost-share programs, such as the Partners for Fish and Wildlife and Private Stewardship Grant programs.  Several landowners attended and were provided with applications and information.

On November 7, 2006, the same group attended the Eddy County Commission meeting.  NMDGF presented information about the State's efforts to study and document the mussel and conservation issues that should be addressed concerning inadequate road crossings over the Black River, road/vehicle safety issues, and other impacts to the in-stream and riparian habitat along the river.
