Staff from La Crosse FRO assisted the Menominee Tribe in conducting fishery management surveys on five Reservation Lakes, during September and October.  More than 1,700 individual fish representing 25 species were collected by electrofishing and gill and trap netting.

These data will be used to update population estimates for lake sturgeon on Legend Lake and allow the tribe to set reasonable harvest quotas for the lake sturgeon fishery.

Data on other species such as largemouth bass, yellow perch, and bluegill will be used to make management recommendations for individual lakes.

The tribe is currently developing an integrated resource management plan for all the natural resources on the Reservation and will incorporate fishery recommendations into that plan.
