East Lansing Field Office Participates in Indiana Bat Workshop
Midwest Region, November 1, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Staff from the East Lansing Field Office participated in a two-day workshop on the Indiana Bat, sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the Center for North American Bat Research and Conservation.

The event, held at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, brought together natural resource and transportation agency staff to discuss a broad range of topics related to the federally endangered Indiana Bat (Myotis sodalis).

Topics of the workshop included Indiana bat research needs, recovery plan status, and recent state Department of Transportation consultation agreements.  The second day of the meeting included several breakout sessions, where small groups of meeting participants developed recommendations to address issues such as improvements to current processes, research priorities and potential recovery actions.  The workshop ended with a site visit to the Indianapolis Airport Project site, where extensive research on Indiana bats is underway.
