Journal Entry   Back Wallkill RiverNational Wildlife Refugeand Friendsof WallkillRiver Refuges Host National Wildlife RefugeWeek Event Northeast Region, October 14, 2006 Print Friendly Version As part of its kick-off celebration, Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge and the Friends of Wallkill River Refuges (Wallkill River and Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuges) hosted a large celebration of the refuge and the National Wildlife Refuge System. The successful event included nature walks, live animal demonstrations, equipment demonstrations and children's activities. Nearly 500 people attended the event, which included a band, more than 30 exhibitors (including live raptors, live wolves and live search and rescue dogs) and community partners.
