Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge Inventories Invasive Plants Through Partners
Northeast Region, August 25, 2006
Print Friendly Version
Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge, in partnership with the Central Pine Barrens Commission and The Nature Conservancy, inventoried invasive plants on approximately 1500 acres of refuge property August 7 to August 25, 2006.  Central Pine Barrens Commission interns, under the supervision of The Nature Conservancy staff and guidance from refuge staff collected GPS data representing observed invasive species infestations.  The information gathered through this effort will be compiled along with information from other lands located within Long Island's Central Pine Barrens in a comprehensive report complete with detailed maps for use by land managers as a management tool.  This project exemplifies the power of partnerships and is a first step in addressing the serious threat posed by invasive plant species on a regional scale.
