On October 14, 2006 family, friends, former students, and former and current Service employees honored Alfred H. Grewe, Jr. by dedicating a newly acquired 40-acre tract of land in his name.

Al Grewe was a St. Cloud State University professor from 1965 until his death in 2001.  He was instrumental in the establishment of Crane Meadows NWR and a leader in the field of natural resource conservation.

The event took place on-site with an unveiling of the tract sign by Wanda Orth and Elaine Gringle, Al Grewe's sisters.  Sherburne Complex Project Leader Anne Sittauer gave the presentation with former refuge manager and Grewe student Jay Johnson contributing.

Refreshments were provided afterward at Crane Meadows.
