University of Virginia-Wise Environmental Science Club and Pi Lamda Phi Fraternity Volunteer 32 Hours to Eradicate Noxious Weeds at the UVA-Wise Wetlands Project

On September 30, 2006 members of the Environmental Science Club collaborated with members of Pi Lamda Phi Fraternity to eradicate invasive species at the University of Virginia (UVA)-Wise Wetlands Project.  Sixteen volunteer workers from the two organizations manually removed multiflora rose and crown vetch, which were out competing native species relocated to the recently developed wetland complex.  The UVA-Wise Wetland Project is the result of numerous federal and state agencies and non-government organizations working together to develop an acid mine drainage remediation system and an outdoor classroom for K-16 students.
