Muscatatuck NWR hosts a Wildlife Habitat Management Workshop for Foresters
Midwest Region, September 27, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Muscatatuck NWR hosted a Wildlife Habitat Management Workshop for Foresters, September 26-27, attended by 40 Indiana DNR Foresters and consulting foresters.

The workshop was part of a series of formal continuing education workshops initiated by the Indiana Society of American Foresters, with Purdue University, Department of Forestry and Natural Resources.  The Foresters attending implement the Indiana Classified Forest and Wildlands programs which currently has 585,000 acres of private lands enrolled.

Dr. Brian Miller, Purdue University, and Susan Knowles, Muscatatuck NWR, helped coordinate the event.

Programs featured woodlands, grasslands, wetlands and the wildlife species they support.  Field trips were conducted on the refuge and private lands to encourage wildlife habitat management as a primary consideration for planning when Foresters work with landowners on the large portion of Indiana's private lands available for conservation work.
