Congressional Contact: Moosehorn and Aroostook National Wildlife Refuges' Field Day
Northeast Region, July 27, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Over 40 volunteers and refuge staff gathered together at mid-season to reflect on accomplishments and future goals in the areas of biology, public use and maintenance projects. The group was joined by Marcia Gartly, staffer to Rep. Mike Michaud and Jessamine D. Logan staffer to Senator Susan Collins. Summer volunteers and seasonal staff reported on efforts in wildlife surveys and the regional impoundment study. In addition, the group heard status reports on waterfowl, singing bird surveys, impoundment studies, grouse studies, woodcock studies and vernal pools. Two public use volunteers, Kirk and Pam Wood reported on visitor counts, weekend tours and their progress in installing interpretive signs. The Youth Conservation Corp provided an update on their projects and the maintenance staff gave an update on current maintenance projects. The Moosehorn Friends Group provided lunch for the group.

A power point of the biological presentation is available. The presentations gave our young biologists and Environmental Careers Organization Intern an opportunity to learn the art of scientific presentation. They did an outstanding job.

The Congressional representatives joined us for lunch, proceeded by a tour of areas in the refuge that would be impacted by future gas pipe lines and the construction of a new international bridge in Calais, ME.
